Trans-Florida Central Rail-Trail Greenway

APPLICATION TO THE TIGER III DISCRETIONARY GRANTS PROGRAM

This TIGER III Grant application is for the construction of the remaining portions of the Trans-Florida Central Rail-Trail Greenway and important multimodal connections along the trail.

Specifically, the project will complete the final 10 miles of the 17 mile trail extending from the Indian River Lagoon to the headwaters of the St. Johns River with a 10’ multiuse path and, in parts, a companion 12’ wide natural earth equestrian trail and provide important multimodal connections to adjacent neighborhoods and transit routes.

The trail connects numerous residential areas to the heart of the historic Fellsmere business center and runs along a heavily used transit corridor. Multimodal connections and transit depots will complete a truly multimodal project. All required right-of-way has been acquired or pledged as part of this project, and the NEPA environmental process has commenced.

The TIGER III Grant includes funding for design and completion of the NEPA process. If awarded, the project will achieve obligation of funds by September 2013.
