URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANT

The City of Fellsmere recently completed the scope of work encompassed in the Urban and Community Forestry Grant provided through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The scope consisted of native tree trimming and the removal of invasive non-native species from City ROW. Handschuh Tree Surgeons performed the work based on the contract approved at the March 16, 2006 City Council meeting. This project provides numerous benefits to the City of Fellsmere including:

  1. The ability to properly maintain the native species

  2. The ability to access power lines and prevent storm damage

  3. Increased drainage due to the removal of the invasive vegetation

  4. Enhanced security for property owners abutting the ROW.

  5. Enhanced ability for the City to maintain the ROW

In total approximately twenty five (25) alley ways were upgraded with the assistance of this grant. This grant provided $25,000.00 in funding to assist the City of Fellsmere and the City greatly appreciates the guidance provided by the Division of Forestry through Sheryle Dell, Operations & Management Consultant.
