The City of Fellsmere recently completed the scope of work encompassed in
the Urban and Community Forestry Grant provided through the Department of
Agriculture and Consumer Services. The scope consisted of native tree
trimming and the removal of invasive non-native species from City ROW.
Handschuh Tree Surgeons performed the work based on the contract approved
at the March 16, 2006 City Council meeting. This project provides numerous
benefits to the City of Fellsmere including:
-
The ability to properly
maintain the native species
-
The ability to access
power lines and prevent storm damage
-
Increased drainage due to
the removal of the invasive vegetation
-
Enhanced security for
property owners abutting the ROW.
-
Enhanced ability for the
City to maintain the ROW
In total approximately
twenty five (25) alley ways were upgraded with the assistance of this
grant. This grant provided $25,000.00 in funding to assist the City of
Fellsmere and the City greatly appreciates the guidance provided by the
Division of Forestry through Sheryle Dell, Operations & Management
Consultant.
